Erica enjoys working with adults immensely and has had many influential experiences in the on-campus clinic at JMU that led her down this path. Long-term, she wants to work in the acute care hospital setting to help people who have just experienced a stroke or traumatic brain injury. This commitment may be shown through meaningful service to the field (such as leadership in Speech-Language-Hearing Association (SHAV), Association of Virginia Audiologists (AVA), the Communication Disorders Foundation of Virginia (CDF) or other organizations promoting the field of communication sciences and disorders, as well as through mentorship and support to future professionals, including undergraduate and graduate students and clinical fellows. An outstanding nominee would embody Martha’s hallmark qualities of graciousness and unwavering integrity. The nomination package should clearly and convincingly illustrate how the nominee reflects leadership, values, and ideals that Martha represented and why this makes the nominee a "champion" of the profession. The nominee must be a current member of SHAV for at least 5 years or a member of AVA. Current or previous colleagues, previous students, and other professionals who are current SHAV or AVA members and can attest to the nominee’s qualities may make a nomination. A complete nomination must include the primary nomination letter and at least two additional letters of support from current SHAV or AVA members.
